GOOD HABITS

The footna the over the fields from village to village have
Been made by people’s feet, at first there was no path and villages
Had to find their way as they could. But they naturally took the
shortest; or easiest; way they could find; and by constantly walking
In this any they trod down the earth and made a track; witch at last
Become a regular field path.
Habits, good or bad, are formed in the same manner, by
Repetition. The more often we do anything in a special way, the
More likely we are to go on doing it in the same way. At last, to do
It in that. Was becomes a habit, just as the earth that is constantly
trodden on becomes a path.
These are some of the good habits we should be forming
When we are young telling the truth, doing thing at the right time,
Doing our work thoroughly, obeying parents and teachers, being
kind to others, and keeping our thoughts and a cts pure.

Dr. c.w.w. Kannangara was an eminent Sri Lankan
educationist Who worked unceasingly to bring about reforms in
education. He became a minister of the Legislative council in
1923, the Minister of Education in 1931. As Minister of Education
he realised that the prevailing educational system was unsuitable
to the time when newly awakened nationalistic ideas were growing
in the people. In his education reforms bill of 1938, he made
changes which he thought the educational system and needed.
He was referring to the poor village child who
lacked the educational opportunities to bring out his talents
and abilities.

WATERFALLS

                water in all its forms, icebergs, snowflakes, oceans, lakes
and rivers has a fascination of its own. But none can surpass the awesome
beauty of a water fall. there are about sixteen principal water falls in
Sri Lanka of these Bambarakanda water fall is the highest, with a height
of about 240 meters’. Dunhinda which is perhaps the best known of all
the water falls gets its name from the smoke like spray it creates as its
water falls in to the rock pool below hence the name ‘Dunhinda’.
                 Bopath Ella is another water falls known for its beauty of formation.
In this the water falls gracefully in the shape of a ‘Bo’ leaf.
                 Water falls are not just pretty things. They have a majesty
of their own. They are delights of nature to be experienced and felt, not
just seen only.

Bordering the yala national park to the east is the well- known

bird sanctuary, Kumana As you approach Kumana you hear a rather noisy invitation- the sound of thousands of birds calling one another. Here a large variety of indigenous aquatic birds gather from April to July making kumana a birdwatcher’ paradise. There are herons, egrets and spoonbills nesting in the trees above. Water hens, purple coot and jacana build their nests in the swamp below.

The migrant birds leave by the end of March. Ducks are the first to go. They make a fine sight as they cycle the land and move away in an arrow head formation against a blue sky on their long way home.

My Village

My village is Mugunakele. It is called Egodagoda. It belongs to Galgodagama grama seva division. This is situated close to Balangoda town. This is a rural village. But, it is a beautiful area. There is a range of mountain around the village. There is a small temple in my village. It is called “Deniye” temple.

There are about 150 families in my village. The Villagers are doing other jobs. There are tea estates and coconut estates. As I think, there are all facilities in my village. There are electricity, transport, water etc. There is a small school close to my village. There is a weaving school. But it is closed. I love my village.

A short story

                    Shantha kumara was a young boy of ten years.
He goes to the village school with his younger sister.
                    One day on their way to school they met an old
beggar. He was very hungry. They shared the piece of bread;
mother had given them for breakfast.
                     The beggar was very happy. He give them his
little puppy. They took the puppy to school and left him under
the tree.
                     After school they would not find it. They looked
every where. They heard a faint whimper.
                     The pup had fallen in to a pit. The boys rescued
it and shantha kumara took it home lovingly.

LAKSHAPANA FALLS

      Located in Hatton, Lakshapana fall    which in 126
Metres in height, springs from Maskeliya Oya , a
River which begins its journey from Adam’s peak
or ‘Mt.Samanala. ‘According to Sinhalese folklore,
Maskeliya Oya Originates at the ‘lndikatupaana, on
The top of Adam’s peak.
      There are two theories as how the
Water fall got its name. One is that since it cascades
Over a vast number of rocks, it was called. ‘Laksha’
Which means a hundred thous and Pahana which
Means rock.
               The second theory is that the name
Lakshapana was derived from ‘Lassana pahana’
whichMeans Beautiful .         Today, Lakshapana
falls lives up to its name with regard to the
second theory because it Powers Sri Lanka’s
first hydro power plant, generating electricity
and thereby providing light to over a hundred
thousand homes.

ELEPHANT

Elephant are the largest mammals on land.
There are two kinds of Elephants. The African Elephant and the Asian Elephant.
Elephant like to feed on grass, plants, varieties of bamboo and fruits. They produce one calf at a time .These calves begin living on their own when they are about 5 years old. The lifespan of an Elephant is about 45- 60 years.
The Asian Elephant has 4 smooth jaw teeth and 5
Toenails on each foot. Their tusks are 5 mouth and their ears are not very large. Asian Elephants to live in herds and only some of them.
The African Elephant in deferent in shape. It has rough teeth and very large ears. They are hard to tame and they mostly lead solitary lives.

DUNHINDA FALLS

Originating from the Badulu oya, Dunhinda falls stands 63 metrs in height enhancing the beauty and allure of the Badulla area.
A unique creation of nature, Dunhinda falls and its surrundings have been by ancient kings and chiefains as a hideout to streng then their defencees during times of war.
According to legend, in the rock pool at the bottom of the falls, there lives fish that wears a gold earring.
Because of the force with which it cascades, this water fall cloaks its surroundings in ‘dun’ which means thick mist and it is from this that is derives its name.
With the misty spray and various birdcalls from its surroundings, the sight of Dunhinda falls, when viewed from its ‘lookout point’ is a breath to king experience.

My name is M.E. Dileeka Chandani. I’m sixteen years old.Iam a student. My birth day is on 22nd of october 1990.I live in Kongasthenna.There are S ix members in my famili. Ihave one brother and two sisters. My Mother is Mrs Kusumawathi. Shi is house wife.My Father is Mr. Siripala.My School is R/ Damahana Mahana vidyalaya. I’m go to school by bus. It issituated in Rathnapura disrict, Sabaragamuwaprovince, Balangoda.My principal is Mr.B. Somasiri.There are about 850 pupils and about 58 Teachers in my school.My school selected at the second place of Sri Lanka for E-village programe.
